Simultaneous measurement under resting-state of autonomic nervous activity and brain activity by near-infrared spectroscopy alone

چکیده
• We were able to evaluate autonomic nervous activity using near-infrared spectroscopy. Heartbeat-related signals extracted from the signal-processed total hemoglobin data correlated well with R-R intervals. Heart-rate variability parameters had a high correlation between spectroscopy and electrocardiogram.. Near-infrared (NIRS) is widely used for brain-function imaging, but raw signal also encompasses various other physiological factors such as heartbeat. In this study, we aimed extract heartbeat-related NIRS brain simultaneously. For that purpose, simultaneous electrocardiogram (ECG) datasets acquired 10 healthy volunteers, heart-rate intervals obtained each dataset compared. investigated which could affect extrication of data, number channels, type signal, resampling interval data. found be effectively by averaging all channels (52 channels) after band-pass filtering upsampling same 4 msec (250 Hz) ECG sampling interval, showed indicators calculated those Despite its simplicity, our method demonstrates possibility analyzing while considering only.

Measurement of brain activity by near-infrared light.
We review our most recent results on near-IR studies of human brain activity, which have been evolving in two directions: detection of neuronal signals and measurements of functional hemodynamics. We discuss results obtained so far, describing in detail the techniques we developed for detecting neuronal activity, and presenting results of a study that, as we believe, confirms the feasibility of...
متن کاملbrain near-infrared spectroscopy (nirs)
near-infrared spectroscopy (nirs) is a spectroscopic method that uses the near-infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. typical applications include medical and physiological diagnostics. nirs can be used for non-invasive assessment of brain function through the intact skull in human subjects by detecting changes in blood hemoglobin concentrations associated with neural activity, e.g., ...
متن کاملNear Infrared Imaging and Spectroscopy for Brain Activity Monitoring
The first demonstration that near infrared (NIR) light can be used to monitor the state of cortical tissues noninvasively through the skull was presented by Jobsis in 1977 [53]. About a decade later, researchers started looking at the potential use of NIR spectroscopy for functional brain activity monitoring. Early studies began with simple motor and sensory tasks demonstrating the feasibility ...
متن کاملRevealing Topological Organization of Human Brain Functional Networks with Resting-State Functional near Infrared Spectroscopy
BACKGROUND The human brain is a highly complex system that can be represented as a structurally interconnected and functionally synchronized network, which assures both the segregation and integration of information processing. Recent studies have demonstrated that a variety of neuroimaging and neurophysiological techniques such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), diffusion MRI and ...
متن کاملMeasurement of Brain Function Using Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS)
Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) has gained attention in recent years (Hoshi et al., 2001; Tamura, 2003). This non-invasive technique uses near-infrared light to evaluate increases or decreases in oxygenated hemoglobin or deoxygenated hemoglobin in tissues below the body surface. NIRS can detect the hemodynamics of the brain in real time while the subject is moving. Brain activity can therefor...
